Maroon sedan masked and prepped for paint
A maroon sedan taped and masked in the booth, at the stage that decides whether the finished paint looks factory or looks resprayed.
This is the part of a paint job nobody photographs and everybody judges. Masking decides where the new paint stops, and a lazy tape line leaves a hard edge that will be visible for as long as the owner keeps the car.
Trim, glass rubbers and door jambs all get treated differently depending on whether the panel is being blended or fully refinished. On this sedan the blend was carried into the neighbouring panels so the colour change happens gradually rather than at a seam.
Maroon and other deep reds shift under different light more than most colours, so the match was checked in daylight as well as under the booth lights before the car was signed off.
